I’ll walk you through everything: downloading MT4, connecting it to your Exness account, reading charts, placing orders, managing risk, and even loading automated trading robots (EAs).

1. What is MetaTrader 4 (and Why Use It)?

MetaTrader 4 (MT4) is a trading platform developed by MetaQuotes in 2005. Despite being nearly 20 years old, it remains the #1 choice for retail forex traders worldwide because:

• ✅ Supports automated trading (Expert Advisors / EAs)
• ✅ Has thousands of custom indicators and tools
• ✅ Stable, fast, and battle-tested
• ✅ Almost every forex broker supports it (so you can move brokers without learning a new platform)

MT4 vs MT5: Exness also offers MT5 (newer, more features), but most traders — especially beginners — start with MT4 because:

• MT4 has more educational content available
• Most EAs are built for MT4
• MT4 is simpler for basic trading

💡 My recommendation: Start with MT4. Move to MT5 later if you need its extra features (more timeframes, more order types, built-in economic calendar).

2. How to Download and Install MT4

On Windows (Desktop)

1. Log in to your Exness Personal Area
2. Click on “Trading Platforms” in the left sidebar
3. Under MetaTrader 4, click “Download for Windows”
4. Run the installer (mt4setup.exe)
5. Click Next → Next → Install → Finish
6. MT4 will launch automatically

On Mac

MetaQuotes doesn’t make a native Mac app, so you have two options:

Option A: Use a third-party MT4 Mac client

• Download from your broker (Exness has a Mac-compatible version)
• Or use popular third-party

Option B: Use the WebTrader

• Open in any browser
• No installation needed

On iOS (iPhone / iPad)

⚠️ Warning: There are many fake “MT4” apps on app stores. Make sure the developer is MetaQuotes Software Corp. Anything else is a scam.

3. Connect MT4 to Your Exness Account

Once MT4 is installed, you need to log in with your Exness trading credentials.

Step-by-step:

1. Open MT4
2. Click File → Login to Trade Account (or the “Login” button in the toolbar)
3. Select the Exness server from the dropdown:
   • For live accounts: Exness-Real or Exness-RealXX (the number depends on your account)
   • For demo: Exness-Demo or Exness-DemoXX
   • Tip: Your server name is in your Exness Personal Area under “My Accounts”
4. Enter your Login (account number, e.g., 12345678)
5. Enter your Password (the trading password, NOT your Personal Area password)
6. Click Login

If successful, you’ll see your account balance in the bottom-left “Trade” tab, and you should hear a small “connection successful” sound.

💡 Can’t find your server? Open your Exness Personal Area → My Accounts → Click the server icon next to your account number. It will copy the server name to your clipboard.
